Before Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction started last week we told you about a custom 2013 Shelby GT500 that would be given away by SPEED TV as part of their Hagerty Fantasy Bid Competition. All you needed to do to get a chance at winning the car was simply enter the contest, and SPEED would randomly pick a winner from the entrants. Last month we reported that Shelby had launched a new widebody kit for the 2005-2009 Mustang, allowing owners to add an extra six inches to the rear and three inches to the front of their cars. The kit includes front and rear fenders constructed of high-quality fiberglass, 20×10 front and 20×13 rear wheels and 265/35/R20 front and 345/35/R20 rear tires. After seeing this stunning 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 cross the block at Barrett-Jackson, we’ve come to the conclusion that the king of Ford’s muscle cars looks best in black – Raven Black to be specific. Just 93 examples were painted in this color, making it even more rare than the usual bright colors the Boss 429 came in, and the car looks downright menacing when cloaked in inky darkness. After an all-original 1965 Shelby GT350 “Barn Find” sold for an incredible $385,000 at last year’s Barrett-Jackson auction, we had our eye on this 1967 Shelby GT500. In a similar, all-original and unrestored condition and just 9,508 on the odometer, the car was ripe for a bidding war. That didn’t quite happen, though, and while the $192,500 final selling price is certainly impressive, it didn’t quite match up to the GT350 sale the previous year.
