2012 Shelby GT500 tops Forbes’ list of fastest cars under $50,000

Forbes magazine has put together a list of the fastest vehicles available for under $50,000, and the results aren’t surprising (at least to us). The 2012 Shelby GT500 tops the list, barely squeezing under the limit with a base price of $49,605, while the 2012 Boss 302 made it a Mustang 1-2 by taking home second place. With Forbes using a horsepower-to-weight ratio rather than acceleration times or top speed to determine the best performance car, the two Mustangs dominated the list with 6.9 lb/hp and 8.2 lb/hp, respectively. Consumer Reports names 2012 Ford Mustang GT as top pick in sporty car category

The Boss 302 has taken much of the accolades for the Mustang family this past year, garnering awards from MotorWeek, Hagerty, Cars.com, Autobytel.com, Ward’s, Car & Driver and Automobile Magazine. 2012 Mustang Boss 302 receives MotorWeek’s “Best of the Year” Drivers’ Choice Award

The 2012 Ford Mustang Mustang 302 has received MotorWeek’s “Best of the Year” 2012 Drivers’ Choice Award. Hagerty names Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca as one of 2012′s top ten future classics

It’s pretty obvious that Mustang fans believe the modern Boss 302 will be a future classic, but what about the rest of the automotive community? Cars.com has a different take on its annual awards, placing vehicles in categories for work, play, family, and eco-friendly. 2012 Mustang Boss 302 named as Autobytel’s Sports Car of the Year

The Mustang continues to rack up awards as fast as magazines and web sites can hand them out. The latest comes from Autobytel.com, who named the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 as their ’2012 Sports Car of the Year’. MSN Autos ranks the 2012 Mustang GT as the “best bang for the buck”

The Ford Mustang continues to garner awards from the automotive press, the latest of which comes from MSN Autos who named the 2012 Mustang GT as the car with the “best bang for the buck”. With a base price of $29,310 and 412 horsepower, the Mustang GT has a $/HP ratio of 71.14, beating out the likes of the Chevrolet Camaro SS ($74.77 /HP), Dodge Challenger R/T ($79.77/HP), Dodge Charger R/T ($81.07 /hp) and more.

Today Ward’s released their annual 10 Best Engines list for 2012, and the Ford Mustang Boss 302′s V8 was included in the recipients. This is the second year that Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 has been awarded the honor, after the Mustang GT’s engine was named to the list for 2011. Today Car and Driver announced their annual 10 Best list, and to no surprise the 2012 Ford Mustang was included on the list. Car and Driver specifically singled out the GT and Boss 302 models, praising Ford’s engineers for creating “a new standard” for muscle cars.
