Webasto builds custom Mustang to honor fallen soldiers
Webasto Product North America, Inc. (WPNA) has collaborated with top aftermarket manufacturers to build a patriotic Ford Mustang that honors our nation’s heroes. Webasto’s goal is to bring awareness and raise money for The Fallen and Wounded Soldier’s Fund (FWSF), a non-profit organization focused on helping service members with medical costs, transportation and other financial assistance. The FWSF staff is made up of all volunteers, meaning they don’t get paid for their work and a higher percentage of money raised goes straight to helping soldiers. Webasto unveiled the vehicle at the 2011 SEMA show.
In their quest to build the biggest, baddest street Mustang – worthy of honoring America’s finest, the Webasto team called upon the Mustang experts at MRT Performance in Plymouth, Michigan. Having produced some of the finest performance and show vehicles in the last decade, MRT knows the 2011 Mustang inside and out. MRT took the stock 2011 Mustang GT and added their MaxFlow h-pipe and Interceptor axle-back to give the car that deep, muscle car rumble. Next they installed their rear handling package, H&R coil-over suspension, 3d Carbon side skirts and rear fascia, Stainless Steel Performance brakes with 14 inch rotors and 8-piston calipers, and a Ford Racing gauge pod with Auto Meter boost, air/fuel, and oil pressure gauges.
Now that the car sounded great, and was starting to look great, it was time to add more power! So Webasto took the car across town to Roush Performance where they installed their RoushCharger kit for the 5.0 liter engine. While they had the car apart, Roush added their front fascia and grille. 465 rear wheel horsepower and a 3 year/36 mile power train warranty is pretty impressive, but Webasto didn’t stop there. They hooked up with JLT Performance for their Big Cold Air Kit to stuff more air into the 2.3L TVS Roush supercharger. Next it was time for Justin Starkey of VMP Tuning to work his magic. With a smaller pulley and custom tune, Justin squeezed 600 rwhp out of the 302 cubic inch engine. When you factor in the drive train loss, that puts the engine horsepower over 700!
Webasto turned to McLeod Racing for their RXT twin disc clutch kit to handle all the extra power. It can take up to 1000 hp and still provides a stock-like pedal feel. Couple that with the Barton short throw shifter and you have a verified street monster. Getting the car to hook up is a challenge, but a set of sticky Toyo Proxes 4 tires wrapped around 20 inch, Modulare Forged, 3-piece wheels gets the job done.
Finally, a Webasto SEMA car wouldn’t be complete without a sunroof. This Mustang sports a Hollandia 322L Power Sunroof. The top slider accents the body lines nicely and provides fresh air and ventilation. With the color matched sliding sunshade, programmable switch and soft-touch operation, the sunroof looks like it came from the factory.
